Wairoa Athletic Sports Club has been fostering positive community spirit and a love of grass-roots sport for more than 75 years.
Located in the northern Hawkes Bay town of Wairoa, “Athletic” as it is commonly known has a proud history of bringing its diverse district together.
What started out as a conversation between several passionate locals in the late 1930s, Athletic now boasts a membership into the hundreds across several junior and senior sporting codes. This includes Squash, Rugby, Football and Netball. It is also a popular venue for club-based and wider community events.
Athletic prides itself on an inclusive approach to bringing people together, no matter who they are, how old they are, or their sporting ability. It is about building friendships, enjoying the comradery of team sports, being the best one can be and above all else having fun. Overtime the club has continued to evolve in response to its community’s needs with an enduring attitude of “anything is possible”.
