Football 10th August 2024

This Weekend QRS Wairoa Athletic Football Team traveled up to Gisborne Childers Road Reserve 1 to take on league leaders Thistle Bobcats. In the last encounter Athletic manged to draw 5 all in an epic battle. However this match up didn't live up to the hype of what could have been. Athletic had one of the worse starts conceding 2 early goals within 90 seconds, down 2 - 0 was tough to try get back into the game but the boys dug deep to get back into it. Creating multiple chances just not able to find the net. Bobcats experience held on and was able to put a further 2 goals before the half. Halftime score 4-0. The second half began and Athletic were a complete different team going out and putting pressure and creating chances to get back into the game but we weren't able to find the back of net. The Bobcats were able to capitalize on a counter attack and scoring yet again to get the final score 5-0.

It wasn't the game we hoped to have played but was a good wake up call and just good to be back out on the pitch after a month off due to weather.
