This Saturday QRS Wairoa Athletic traveled up to Harry Barker Reserve Gisborne to take on Smash Palace Shockers Green in our final game of the year. 

Athletic saved a brilliant performance for last as the game started Athletic looked to attack from the first whistle with left winger Josh Cowan making a break into the box then winning a penalty for the Black and White team, Captain Ben Blake stepped up to take and slipped past the Keeper to start the scoreboard 1-0 Athletic, Shockers woke up and begun to get back into the game but saves from Mark Anderson kept them out, and a clearing kick to find Mike Hardie who had 2 players to beat to add to the score Athletic 2-0, Athletic were hot on attack with great passages of passing and brilliant football on display from Midfielders Bjorn Sake, Tom Westwood and Luke Graves which kept the Shockers on the back foot. Athletic earned a free kick top of the box which Tom Rowley-Westwood beautifully slotted in making it 3-0 Athletic continued in hot form from a corner which Mike Hardie had a shot saved but luckily Jonny Hardie was able to tidy it up and added to score right before the half QRS Athletic 4-0 halftime.

Second half began and Shockers gained momentum putting Athletics Defensive line to work but stand out performances from Ryan O'Sullivan, Joe De Kock and Raymond Hawley kept them at bay. Athletic had plenty of chances to add to the scoreboard but weren't able to convert into points, Athletic held on to win 4-0.

A game of two halves at its best Athletic were leathel in the first half capitalizing on most of our attacking pressure, Second half seen us defend well as a team to keep Shockers out and keep them scoreless.

Athletic also got a shirt made up for Shockers legend Darryl who unfortunately passed away this year and presented it to them at after match function.
