Yesterday's game QRS Wairoa Athletic Hosted Gisborne Thistle Versatile.

In a game where Thistle sitting second on the table still in the hunt for the title were looking to take the 3 points on offer facing Athletic who were looking to redeem themselves after last weekends nightmare game against top of the table Thistle Bobcats.

The game started strongly as both teams looking to gain any form of momentum hustled back and fourth however being against the wind in the first half Athletic found themselves forced into defending in their half majority of the first half unfortunately conceding 3 goals in the first half. Versatile 3-0.

Second half began and Athletic had the wind behind them and started to apply pressure to get back into the game however Versatiles defense proved to be strong as they held QRS Athletic out until the 65th minute where Joe De Kock got Athletic on the scoreboard 3-1 however it wasn't to be for the men in black and white the game ended 3-1 to Versatile.

Despite the loss Athletic held strong with good performances all over the park, and now look to finish the season strong with our Final Home Game of the year next weekend 24th August.

Player of the day:
Bjorn Sake made a massive impact from the bench in his Athletic debut defending well and even assisting Athletic's goal.
