Senior Football
On Saturday 25th April QRS Athletic Football traveled to Gisborne to take on 2025 Division Two Champions Shockers Marist, hoping to gather some points for the table. However, Marist's experience proved too strong for Athletic with the boys unfortunately going down 5-0. Athletic had multiple chances to get on the scoreboard but luck wasn't on our side, even having a goal not given which would have changed things. Despite the loss the team came off in good spirits with plenty of positives to take into the next match.

Player of the day: Andrew Langdon

This Saturday QRS Athletic Football will travel to Gisborne again, playing Harry Barker Reserve 1 stadium to take on Gisborne United 1st at 2:45pm.

Senior Netball

Wairoa turned on spectacular weather for the Anzac Day Netball Tournament 2026 hosted by Tahuri Mai. Both Osler's Bakery & Cafe Athletic Netball teams entered the tournament and there was plenty of enjoyment and success out on court. This was the first opportunity to look at our teams in competition for the upcoming season.

Osler's Athletic White had a great day at the ANZAC Tournament on Saturday 25th April, playing 7 games and starting strongly with a first-up win. While the results didn’t go our way throughout the day the team showed determination and never gave up. It was unfortunate our full team couldn’t all be there, but we were lucky to fill the gaps with a couple of call-in players who did a great job. There was outstanding defensive play from Grace Cooney and Sara Deam, strong shooting from Grace Young, and a huge effort from Ebony Rore through the middle at Centre. Most importantly, everyone had fun, supported each other, and represented Wairoa Athletic White
with pride.

Osler's Athletic Black played 5 games with only one loss (by one point) to finish 2nd in their pool. This was an amazing result which advanced them into a finals spot later in the day. Game 1 vs Panthers 2 was a great first game to start our season. There were some nerves but the team settled quickly to play a text book game. Everyone worked well together and the circle defence of Becky Donovan and Kaylah Reynolds worked tirelessly to ensure Panthers did not score for the entire game. WIN 18-NIL. Game 2 vs Te Aio proved a bit tougher and the competitiveness was strong amongst both teams. The entire game was played goal for goal and only the whistle stopped the opportunity to win. Despite the loss, this was a cohesive team game with strong, through court play. LOSS 11-12. The third, fourth and fifth games were strong once again from Athletic Black, with confident performances from Teri Wathen-Smith, Jahnaka McIntyre, Holly Taylor and Angel Hammond to name a few. The finals vs YMP Ki Tai was a tough, hard fought game. In patches the play was aggressive and scrappy which relied heavily on the umpire to control the game. However, the tenacity of the Athletic Black players, retaining possession of the ball and sticking to our game plan meant at the fulltime whistle, the game was drawn 12-12. After a short break, we continued play until the first team could score a margin of 2. With some nice intercepts from Kaylah Reynolds and Teri Wathen-Smith and the outstanding defensive play of Claire Little, the advantage was made. Georgia Oliver made a significant contribution in the second half, finishing strong to give us the win 14-12. Athletic Black finished 3rd overall in the tournament which is a fantastic placing for a first outing. We enjoyed a great day out together, helped by our amazing whānau and club supporters.
