Tairawhiti Division Two Round 4

Saturday's Round 4 clash with Thistle Thunder was nothing short of great afternoon entertainment as QRS Wairoa Athletic Football Team look to get back on track after round three's narrow loss. Athletic started hot off the bat through Tom Rowley-Westwood who looked like scoring within the opening minutes of the game who miss hit a sitter goal. Athletic continued with the hot form looking for that first goal which eventually came through the boot of Harry Champion Athletic 1 - Thunder 0, Athletic continued momentum by stringing a fair amount of phases in the attacking zone managing to gain a throw in which Captain Ben Blake threw in and found Striker Joe De Kock who nicely put it past Thistle's Keeper making Athletics score 2 - 0 this however woke up Thistle Thunder as they tried to get back into the game but standout performances by Athletics backline, Jason Smith, Sharn Black and Ryan O'Sullivan to name a few kept them out for a number of phases however Thunder managed to earn a penalty which gave them hope to get back into the game. Athletics keeper Mark Anderson held his ground and made an amazing save keeping Athletics lead 2-0 halftime. The second half started with a hot attack from kickoff by a more determined Thistle Thunder team who looked to play with more intent to get themselves into the game managed to catch Athletic napping and get on the scoreboard 2-1 Now they've scored a goal and have taken momentum off the game and are playing with more belief in there game. Athletic managed to hold off Thistle's attacks through the work ethics of Josh Cowan, Raihania Edwards-Hammond and KC Morrell who absorbed a lot of pressure from Thunder managing to create a counter attack opportunity for Harry Champion to grab himself a brace securing Athletic a 3 - 1 lead, momentum changed multiple times throughout this game Harry and Tom creating more chances but not quite accurate enough to execute. Athletics 4th goal came from a corner kick from Captain Ben Blake who crossed in a nice ball through to Sharn Black who scored what was the final nail in the game or so we thought, Thistle Thunder kept the heads high and managed to get one back. 4 - 2 final score QRS Wairoa Athletic take the victory at home with a season record 2-2 Athletic still to pick up a win on the road this year.
This game had strong performances by all, we're building nicely still yet to have the same squad start in multiple matches.
