Mercantile Squash
Lots of points were handed out last Friday after strong battles on the courts. Slowly but surely, in both pools some of the teams are starting to edge ahead of others, with defending champions Pickering Cabinet Makers now holding the overall lead by one point. This Friday Mercantile will take a break for our Bill Meek's Friday Night Relay Squash Competition. Results:

Round 7 QRS Athletic Football traveled up to Gisborne to take HSOB Campion looking to redeem themselves after last weekend's tough loss. Athletic started well putting pressure on Campion early earning a penalty through the foot work of Karan Singh, which Harry Champion slotted nicely past the keeper, Athletic 1-0. Athletic kept the pressure on by keeping Campion backed in their own half and Taing Pich showcasing his silky skills by dribbling the ball past Campions defence and scoring his first ever Athletic Goal, Athletic 2-0. Full momentum with Athletic currently, amped up Campion to step up another level and started to play well putting pressure on Athletic's backline Jason Smith and Mike Hardie, after a few opportunities Athletic were caught napping when Campion snuck a goal past keeper Phil Molina taking the score 2-1. That gave them hope and belief that the comeback was on. Athletic kept composed and played through a few good passes creating an attacking opportunity for Jonny Hardie to score taking us to halftime with a 3-1 lead from a brilliant cross from Tom Rowley-Westwood. The second half begun with Campion starting strong putting Athletic under pressure from kickoff catching the defence off guard putting in a cross in front of goal where captain Ben Blake looked to shut down but miss timed it causing the ball to deflect catching keeper Phil Molina off guard, Campion score 3-2. Athletic's lead now to just 1 was a wake up call QRS Athletic Football needed to switch on and they turned it around with a stunning performance of good passages of play with Tom Rowley-Westwood creating chances before taking one himself and scored, Athletic 4-2. Athletic didn't slow down there - midfield duo of Tom Rowley-Westwood and Harry Champion causing havoc on Campions defences putting Athletic's players through on goal giving Karan Singh a chance to put Athletic 3 goals clear from Campion which he struck brilliantly, Athletic 5-2. Campion still throwing everything they got at Athletic causing Athletic's backline to make a defensive shift through KC Morrell who turned defence into an attacking opportunity where he passed to Tom who put through a brilliant pass through to Jonny Hardie who hit a beautiful curler past the Campion keeper from outside the box making it 6-2. That was the final play, Athletic taking a strong 6-2 victory over HSOB Campion. Player of the Day: Tom Rowley-Westwood. QRS Athletic Football have a bye next weekend for the Tairawhiti Division Two competition but for the Bill Meek Memorial Club Weekend we are doing game 1 of Veterans vs Rookies.
